July 2010 - KorteQ receives Achilles accreditation as a reliable supplier

KorteQ has recently become a fully accredited supplier on the Achilles Utilities Vendor Database (UVDB).

The supplier management services that Achilles provides are used by companies throughout the utility industry, including the power generation, transmission and distribution, nuclear, water, telecom and gas industries. Initially developed to deal with sourcing and qualifying suppliers, today’s services are increasingly addressing issues, not only of health and safety, but also of corporate social responsibility.

The highly renowned International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) works with its Member States and multiple partners worldwide to promote safe, secure and peaceful nuclear technologies.

KorteQ Limited has helped the Agency to streamline this daily collaboration through an innovative Graphite Knowledge Base.
This secure and scalable solution, based on a Microsoft Windows SharePoint platform, enables IAEA members to share vital data and knowledge, connected to diverse sources of high-integrity information. In order to promote wider dissemination of non-confidential intelligence, the solution was engineered to include more open access for members of the general public.

KorteQ Limited has helped British Energy (part of EDF) and its partners to optimise collaboration between large teams of expert technologists working across the UK, Europe and worldwide, by implementing an innovative Technical Exchange Forum (TEF)

The Graphite Core Project requires multi-disciplinary collaboration between 18 partners across 13 different work packages. We are leading the programme to acquire expert know-how from key participants. Our Microsoft Sharepoint-based Technical Exchange Forum secures the digital content and enables the effective delivery of the business goals.

KorteQ’s Technology Service Line is co-authoring a paper to be delivered at Nuclear 2010 in Romania. The paper details the implementation of a MS SharePoint knowledge base for the IAEA project on Irradiated Nuclear Graphite Properties and it will be presented to stimulate debate and share best practice with other international research efforts (you may wish to follow the link to log-on and see a section of the knowledge base at work). Such efforts are aimed at solving the scientific and technical issues regarding the most competitive systems of nuclear reactors and the problems that affect or limit the acceptance of nuclear power. KorteQ contributed to the global working group sessions held in London under the auspices of the World Nuclear Association. Attendees representing major equipment manufacturers as well as utilities and services companies are developing a consolidated best practice briefing document for wider publication. KorteQ was selected to help with the analysis of Human Performance and Plant Lifetime extension aspects, also considering the statistical records maintained by the IAEA. Paul Adler and Simon Smith presented to a group of Hopkins Architects' Directors and staff, at a key milestone of the joint research programme into advanced collaboration methods (see News - May 2007). Complex time-dependent programmes such as the Velodrome commissioned for the London 2012 Olympics demand the highest performance international teamwork and Cloud-Sourced services will be playing their part in the mix. The business-led evaluation will continue through a systems deployment phase during 2009. June/July 2008 - Industry Seminar Series

As part of our ongoing investment in research and development, KorteQ participated in a series of three prestigious industry events, contributing our perspectives and insights on the knowledge and skills agenda. The professional view point discussed by the large audiences at IET and IMechE events was complemented by a sector-focused viewpoint in the area of Nuclear Decommissioning.

Karen Chinn presented on "Effective Knowledge Transfer and Retention in the Nuclear Industry" to the Decommissioning Working Group. There was keen interest among the audience, drawn from all tiers of the supply chain, in our methods for identifying, capturing and sharing critical organisational knowledge which may otherwise be at risk of loss, see the NIA website information about the NIA, click here.

Edward Keelan's practical keynote on "Examples of Effective Knowledge-Sharing Techniques in Long Life Cycle Operations" was well received by the audience drawn from Industry and Academia. KorteQ's innovative offerings are developed in conjunction with multi-disciplinary research, such as that conducted by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). KorteQ has won a place within the IMDE initiative and has been contributing in depth based on real-life knowledge management solutions. The investigations focus on deployment of emerging social networking, pervasive multi-media and mobile technologies to meet industrial and commercial challenges. February 2008 - KorteQ Joins the Nuclear Industry Association

KorteQ's successful track record of developing skills and training within the civil nuclear industry has attracted the attention of many of the 130 Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) members. As the influential Trade Association prepares to update its "UK Capability" analysis, KorteQ has recently joined in order to contribute to the debate, to help promote the attractiveness of careers in the industry, and to generate new insights into the needs of the sector. November saw the launch of KorteQ's awareness campaign, introducing final year engineering students to a variety of non-traditional career opportunities. The first talk at the University of Bristol was very well received; the students demonstrating keen interest in our innovative ways of working and the improved performance which we are helping our clients to achieve. Simon Smith has joined our team in order to tackle a 3-year postgraduate research programme into practical knowledge management, sponsored by KorteQ. He is based at the Oxford University e-Research centre and will be conducting extensive fieldwork in order to help set the agenda for the next-generation services which will be demanded by our clients.
