National Grid plcAnticipating an increasing workload for Grid Infrastructure upgrades in the coming years, to be supported by a major investment in training, KorteQ was asked to help the team to develop innovative answers to questions such as:
-
How could a more flexible and powerful training curriculum be developed and deployed?
- Which know-how (both historical and emerging) would help staff to avoid re-inventing the wheel?
- Should the current role of trainers be improved in order to deliver a more systematic mentoring process, at the same time reducing the overload on experts' time?Reflecting on the success of the project, John Carnwath, Transmission Requirements Manager, commented
"Our learners are developing more confidence in testing and challenging proposed network solutions, without over-loading the departmental mentors. They gain more visibility of potential career paths; while the organisation benefits from lower exposure to the risk of knowledge loss through staff turnover."
Accelerate LearningHopkins Architects turned to KorteQ to implement a modern web-based collaboration platform based on GoogleApps, in order to revolutionise learning, collaboration and development.
Complex time-dependent construction programmes such as the Velodrome commissioned for the London 2012 Olympics demand high-performance international teamwork: modern tools for collaboration are vital in this industry.
A powerful Intranet/Extranet capability helps to bridge communication gaps while avoiding the need to travel, hence supporting the "green" agenda.
But in a challenging market, Hopkins chose to dig deeper and challenge traditional approaches to learning, setting a bold ambition to accelerate the development of the up-and-coming generation of architects, hence driving innovation and future growth of the practice.
We teamed up with Hopkins and Oxford University to launch a focused programme of research into how design work is actually performed; how knowledge is transferred in practice; how skills and experience are built up; and how the Hopkins "brand" and design ethos are sustained from project to project.
Hopkins' ambitions are progressively becoming reality, as the new Google-like multi-media capabilities are being embraced by practice staff, with KorteQ's help all along the way.
